Today is your chance to visit the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Center (UWEC) and meet a chimp, lion or elephant face-to-face. Established in 1952 by the Colonial Government in Uganda, UWEC works with the Uganda Wildlife Authority and local communities to breed endangered species, and care for injured, sick or stressed animals. Animals are either held for care or rehabilitated for release into the wild. Spend up to three hours with your own personal tour guide, getting up close and personal with the animal ambassadors and experiencing Africa's animals and their habitats. Kids can enjoy biking, donkey and camel rides, and the experience can be tailored to your interests and needs by your UWEC guide.

The duration of the tracking expedition can range from 5 to 8 hours, contingent upon prevailing conditions and the gorillas' whereabouts. As evening falls, return to your lodge for dinner and spend the night there.

We offer a private transfer from Bwindi to Volcanoes National Park (Rwanda), which takes approximately three hours. During your journey, we prioritize your safety and security above all else. In the rare case of a serious illness or injury, all clients are protected by the "Akagera Aviation EMS" Evacuation Service, which is mandatory for travelers to Rwanda. This service covers the expenses of an evacuation flight to Kigali for treatment. However, it is important to note that this insurance policy does not include the cost of any medical treatment received. Therefore, we highly recommend obtaining travel insurance for comprehensive coverage.

The Volcanoes National Park is situated in the Virunga Mountains, a stunning chain of inactive volcanoes in the northern part of the country. This region is the last refuge of the world's mountain gorilla populations, with only around 700 individuals remaining. After breakfast, you will leave the lodge and drive for about an hour to the Park Headquarters. Here, you will meet experienced local guides and trackers who will give you a comprehensive briefing on gorilla trekking etiquette. Once the briefing is over, the forest hike begins.

The trek through the park with your guide is a physically demanding activity that can last either the morning or the entire day, depending on the search for gorilla families. The guide will lead you to the area where the gorillas were spotted the previous night and start tracking them from there. The trek can take anywhere from 1 to 6 hours and may involve climbing to altitudes not exceeding 7,500 feet. The terrain is rugged and can be quite muddy at times. However, once the gorillas are found, all the physical discomfort is forgotten, as the experience is often described as discovering a hidden natural gem in the mist. You will have one hour to observe the gorillas, and each group is limited to a maximum of 8 participants. Visitors are required to maintain a minimum distance of 7 meters (approximately 22 feet) from the gorillas. It is highly recommended to bring cameras with ample storage space. As rain can occur at any time in the forest, it is advised to wear waterproof clothing and protect your camera equipment accordingly. Please be aware that plastic bags, such as carrier or shopping bags, are prohibited in Rwanda. Children under the age of 15 and individuals with colds, the flu, or any other contagious illness are not allowed to visit the gorillas.
