Manaus, the center of this rubber commerce, became the wealthiest and most sophisticated city in Brazil. This morning's exploration will showcase the magnificent architectural remnants from this era, including locations that Theodore Roosevelt, an honorary member of the Explorers Club, would have visited during his time in the city. One notable stop is the former Headquarters of the Booth Line, a steamship company that connected Manaus to major European and American cities. It was from here that President Roosevelt arranged his return journey to the United States after his pioneering exploration of the River of Doubt.

Throughout your tour, you will experience the vibrant trading culture that still thrives in this city, which was founded in the heart of the world's greatest wilderness. After the excursion, indulge in an exquisite private lunch served in one of the 19th century residences in the historical part of Manaus.

The M/Y Tucano explores the forested shore after two morning excursions, seeking wildlife and visiting the homes of deep forest settlers. It is an opportunity to learn about their lives on the edge of the vast trackless forest, as you walk through their gardens and witness their pioneer skills. In the early afternoon, you reach the Rio Jaueperi, an extraordinary river. Along the shoreline, you can observe the varzea forest, rich in unique creatures. If the weather permits, a night excursion will be conducted to observe nocturnal creatures.

Today, you will explore the west side of the Rio Negro by boat and take a forest walk. Discover the unique flooded forest called the igapó, where the trees are submerged in dark water during certain times of the year. Admire the orchids, bromeliads, fishing birds, and iguanas that inhabit the overhanging trees. Throughout the trip, spot colorful birds, majestic rainforest trees draped with vines and adorned with orchids, and occasionally, monkeys swinging in the branches.

Dependent on weather and water levels, venture into rarely visited areas. Tonight, the M/Y Tucano will sail downstream and, if the river depth allows, enter an affluent on the east bank of the Rio Negro. This will enable you to further explore the rainforest along this smaller river. After an evening rainforest exploration in the ship's boats, return to the M/V Tucano for "Caipirinha Night" on the top deck, accompanied by the lively sounds of samba.

The day starts with a dawn outing to see waking wildlife, followed by a Brazilian breakfast. After that, it's one last trip into the forest. In the afternoon, you start heading downstream and reach the "Encontra das Aguas" late in the day. This is a long line where the Amazon and Rio Negro rivers merge in a turbulent maelstrom. Here, the dark water of the Rio Negro flows alongside the brown water of the Amazon. At sunset, the boat turns around and journeys upstream on the Rio Negro to its overnight anchorage north of the city of Manaus. As you pass in front of the city, you can't help but be amazed by the scale of this large and vibrant port city, which is located over a thousand miles from the sea.
