Today is the perfect opportunity to discover the incredible Ngorongoro Crater, one of Tanzania's most remarkable wildlife conservation areas. You will depart from your camp in a privately driven vehicle, accompanied by a local expert guide. Together, you will make your way to the park entrance, and then continue driving for around 20 minutes until you reach the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. This crater is the largest inactive, intact, and unfilled volcanic caldera in the world, formed by a massive explosion that caused the volcano to collapse inward. The result is a massive crater that is roughly 12 miles wide and about 2,000 feet deep. It takes approximately 45 minutes by vehicle to descend from the rim to the crater floor. The crater floor is incredibly fertile, which has attracted a dense population of wildlife. Currently, there are over 25,000 large animals living in the crater, including some of the last remaining black rhinos in the world. The crater is also home to some of the highest concentrations of carnivores, such as lions, hyenas, cheetahs, and jackals. With the help of your expert guide and their knowledge of search patterns, you are sure to spot a wide range of wildlife, including some of the more elusive species like leopards, servals, and bat-eared foxes.
