Leave your hotel with a private vehicle and driver-guide to visit the western part of the Island, where the Mountains and Lakes of 'Sete Cidades' are located. Drive along the Southwest road, passing green pastures where cattle graze. Stop at the Belvedere of 'Vista do Rei', an important panoramic spot with views of the Blue and Green Lakes and a volcanic crater. Take a hike along a section of the Cumeeiras walking trail, keeping an eye out for exotic Azorean flora. Once back at your vehicle, you will head towards the Caldeira Velha nature preserve. Get picked up from your hotel and taken to the marina for a half-day whale watching trip. During this activity, you can see over 25 different species of whales and dolphins that live in the Azores. While there are no guarantees, it is common to see these animals, as well as turtles, seabirds, and other marine life. Before the boat trip, biologists will provide a briefing on the different species, safety measures, how to respect the animals, and rules for observing them at sea. All passengers must wear a life vest while at sea, except on the catamaran. Finish the day with a return transfer to your hotel.
