This temple was dedicated to the falcon god, Horus, and was constructed between 230 and 57 BC by Ptolemy III and his successors. It is considered the best-preserved cult temple in Egypt due to its relatively recent construction date. The inscribed building texts found within the temple give us valuable insight into the construction and appearance of ancient Egyptian temples. However, it fell into disuse as a religious monument in 391 when the Roman Empire prohibited all non-Christian worship. Edfu Temple is an impressive site and ranks as the second largest temple in Egypt, only surpassed by the Karnak Temple.

Your private guide will also take you to visit the Kom Ombo Temple, located between Edfu and Aswan. This unique Greco-Roman temple is dedicated to two gods: Sobek, the crocodile god, and Haroeris, the sun god. The construction of the temple dates back to around 180 BC during the Ptolemaic era, with some additional structures added during Roman times. One fascinating aspect of this temple is its double design, with one side dedicated to Haroeris and the other side to Sobek. The temple is perfectly symmetrical, featuring two sanctuaries and parallel passageways.
